How do you discover your life purpose, as well as
effective personal growth and development systems? This is the primary
question that has engaged my attention for the last 20 years. Hopefully,
you will find enough resources here to help you discover the meaning
of life, find God's purpose for you as an individual, and explore
time-tested principles on how to fulfill your destiny.
I spent a significant amount of time and money on
leadership and self-help books and tapes in my search for purpose,
personal growth and development. I still read many of them. But
most of what they told me was: ‘look into your self,
and be true to yourself, and do what will make you
happy’. The problem with that advice is: I was tired
of living just for me. I did not feel like I had found what the
meaning of my life was all about or how to make it count for something
intrinsically greater and deeper than me.
Then, one day, I read something from the Amplified
Bible that so radically changed my life and shaped my worldview:
“Therefore He says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the
dead, and Christ shall shine (make day dawn) upon you and give you
light. Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily
and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible,
intelligent people), making the very most of the time [buying up
each opportunity], because the days are evil" Ephesians 5:
14-16.
Suddenly, I realized that the Bible is a divine
guide for life, and has something quite relevant to say about how
I live my everyday life; that Jesus Christ can actually help me
“live purposefully, worthily and accurately”. I began
to search the Bible to learn what I could about how to discover
purpose, God’s purpose for my life, and how to find true joy
and meaning while living to my maximum potential.
That was when I discovered two passages in the Bible that solidified
my belief that life's purpose can only be found in God, and inspired
me to help others discover their life purpose: “But there
is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them
understanding” Job 32:8, KJV; and this one from the Message:
"It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we
are living for" Eph 1: 11. My life has taken a new meaning
since I settled on the fact that the purpose for human life
is to enjoy God and glorify him.
There is more to your life than meets the eye. You are a spirit
being, living in a human body. Or, in the words of Teilhard de Chardin,
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience.
We are spiritual beings having a human experience”. What
this means to me is that life’s purpose or personal growth
must start with developing the human soul. It also tells me that
my life, like yours, is worth much more than physical, material
or academic achievements. There is a spirit in us all – the
human spirit. But there is also the Spirit of God is us. It is only
the Spirit of God within the human soul that brings enlightenment,
purpose, and meaning. I need the inspiration of the Almighty God
to become the person he made me to be; and so do you.
“The greatest use of life is to spend
it for something that will outlast it.” William James
